There’s no denying that Jack Grealish’s first season as a Manchester City player was an underwhelming one. The Premier League champions decided to make him the first ever £100 million English footballer last summer, but he didn’t really live up to expectation. Grealish failed to nail down a regular spot in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI in 2021/22 and finished the campaign with just 10 goal contributions (6G, 4A) from his 39 appearances across all competitions.
For a footballer with his unquestionable talent, those numbers simply aren’t good enough – particularly when he’s playing in a team as good as City.
But the 2022/23 season could be where we see the very best of Grealish in a sky blue jersey. With Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus now gone, the former Aston Villa man will have less competition for a starting berth.
And judging by Grealish’s individual highlights from City’s recent 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich, he’s a man on a mission.
