The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction on December 19 will be the final chance for the 10 franchises involved to ready and finetune their squads ahead of the upcoming season of the world's most popular T20 cricket tournament.

Ahead of the auction, the teams have retained their heavy-hitters and released the players deemed excess to their requirements in order to free up funds to strengthen their squads at the auction.

However, there are a few points that need to be remembered. Each team can have a maximum of 25 players in the squad, which includes an upper cap of eight overseas players.

The minimum squad size, meanwhile, needs to be 18. After player retention, releases and trades, a maximum of 77 slots can be filled up by the 10 teams combined at the IPL 2024 auction.
