Neymar And Al-Hilal Agree To Terminate Contract

Brazilian star Neymar on Monday ended his injury-plagued 18 month stay in Saudi Arabia as his club, Al-Hilal said they had "agreed to terminate the player's contract by mutual consent". "The club expresses its thanks and appreciation to Neymar for what he has provided throughout his career with Al-Hilal, and wish the player success in his career," said a club statement posted on social media. The 32-year-old former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain forward played just seven times since joining the club in August 2023, despite a reported salary of around $104 million a year.

Neymar expected to return from right calf injury and play for Brazil in World Cup against Scotland

PHILADELPHIA: Neymar is expected to return from a right calf injury and play for Brazil in its final World Cup group match, coach Carlo Ancelotti said Friday night. Neymar missed Brazil’s first two games of the tournament, including Friday’s 3-0 win over Haiti. Ancelotti said Neymar would go through individual training on Saturday, train with the team on Monday and “will be available” for Brazil when it closes Group C play against Scotland on Wednesday in Miami Gardens, Florida. Neymar is Brazil’s career scoring leader with 79 goals in 129 international appearances. The 34-year-old midfielder has yet to practice in full sessions with the team since reporting to Brazil’s squad while nursing the calf injury. Looking to play in his fourth World Cup, Neymar had tests on his calf last Monday to determine the progress of the injury that he sustained while playing for Brazilian club Santos on May 17. There was widespread debate in Brazil over whether Neymar, whose first World Cup was on home soil in 2014, should have been called up for the tournament.

Brazil enter the fray at the World Cup

LOS ANGELES: Five-time winners Brazil roll into the World Cup on Saturday when they play surprise 2022 semifinalists Morocco in one of the standout group-stage matchups. On the first day featuring four matches at a tournament expanded this year to 48 teams, Scotland return to the World Cup for the first time since 1998 and take on debutants Haiti in Boston. In other games, 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar play Switzerland in Santa Clara before Australia take on Turkiye in Vancouver to close out the day. Co-hosts the United States launched their home World Cup in emphatic fashion Friday, thrashing Paraguay 4-1 to delight a star-studded 70,000-strong crowd in Los Angeles that included Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and David Beckham. On Saturday, all eyes will be fixed on Brazil in New Jersey. The Selecao might not be the force they once were, but they remain one of the most glamorous draws in world football. Carlo Ancelotti has been drafted in to try to end the Brazilians’ 24-year wait for another global crown. Ancelotti, making his World Cup debut as a coach, says he is convinced he has a team capable of competing with the very best. “It’s a new experience, it’s a new responsibility to represent the country of football,” the Italian said on Friday. “We have a team that can compete with every team in the world, we’re convinced of that.
