In a history-making move, Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a whopping Rs 24.75 crores just hours after his skipper Pat Cummins had breached the Rs 20 crore mark after being brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), to become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the auction in Dubai on Tuesday.

Sam Curran, an all-around player for England, was previously the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), having cost Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 18.50 crore for him at the previous year's auction, as per Olympics.com.

At the IPL 2024 auction, 332 players from 13 different countries were up for bid. Of these, Indians made up 216. Following player retention, releases, and trades, the 10 clubs united in the IPL 2024 auction had a maximum of 77 spots available, including 30 overseas player quotas.

However, only KKR (23) and RR (22) decided not to pursue their entire quota of 25 players, meaning that 72 players were selected throughout the bidding process.

Royal Challengers Bangalore were quite busy in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction, engaging in intense battles with other franchises for their priority picks. While RCB couldn't land Australia captain Pat Cummins despite bidding over INR 20 crore for the star cricketer, they did manage to land Yash Dayal and Alazarri Joseph. RCB's decision to lodge high bids for both Dayal and Joseph didn't go down well with a section of fans who questioned the team's strategy at the auction.
Mitchell Starc on Tuesday became the costliest player in the IPL history after Kolkata Knight Riders snapped him for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore in the auction and the team's CEO Venky Mysore justified the price tag, saying the Australian speedster "was a preferred player from the skill-set standpoint". Not long after Australia captain Pat Cummins fetched an unprecedented Rs 20.50 crore from Sunrisers Hyderabad, the KKR raised the bar for a record-breaking bid for Starc, who last played in the IPL in 2015. "... obviously he (Strac) was a preferred player from skill set standpoint. Initially, we were not successful in some of the bids. Maybe that worked in our favour, because we did end up having money to do this. So we're just thankful that we were able to have him on our side," Mysore said.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, one of the few Indian Premier League franchises yet to win the title, went into the auction on Tuesday with big expectations. But, RCB's strategy fell flat as they missed out on key targets like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins. While RCB have received a thumbs down from fans over some of their recruits in the auction, former India pacer Dodda Ganesh has also criticised for the franchise for its 'elementary mistakes' in attempt to assemble a title-winning squad.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Auction in Dubai on Tuesday saw a total of 72 players being sold for a massive amount of Rs. 230.45 crore. All 10 franchises bolstered their ranks considerably with multiple deals in the auction but they can still add players to their squad. According to the IPL rules, teams can take part in swap deals or all-cash deals for cricketers among themselves during the ongoing trade window. The window opened on December 20 - a day after the auction ended - and will now be operational until a month before the start of the 2024 season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 auction made headlines on Tuesday. Two Australians - Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins - were the centre of all attraction. First, Pat Cummins became the first-ever player in IPL history to breach the Rs 20 crore mark in auction. He was ultimately picked by SunRisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. That was not all, as Mitchell Starc went for an even bigger purse. The Australian pacer saw an intense bidding war between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, with the former picking him up for Rs 24.75 crore.
Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was picked by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2024 auction and it means that he will be playing under the captaincy of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. While both cricketers boast of long international careers, they share a bit of history among themselves that involves an infamous 'collision'. During a ODI match between India and Bangladesh in 2015, Dhoni and Mustafizur collided when the batter tried to take a run and the incident ended with both cricketers losing a percentage of their match fees. The social media handle of CSK took to social media to remind people of the incident along with the caption - "From Collision to Coalition!  It's all #Yellove!".
