Delhi pacer Harshit Rana, who earned a call-up to the Indian Test side for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia away from home, said that being selected for the tour is a big deal for him since the competitive attitude he has in his gameplay is very similar to that of the Aussies.

Rana was among several fresh faces chosen for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, alongside young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, opener Abhimanyu Easwaran and wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel.

Speaking after his five-wicket haul against Assam in the Ranji Trophy game at Delhi, Rana said that he had received no indications he was going to be part of the side and it was a "big deal" for him to be selected.  "Only when the team was announced did I know I was going to Australia.

But I had indications that I might be selected for the Australia tour because they had me with the team to prepare. Being selected for Australia tour is a big deal for me.

One of the finest young batters in India but Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to be devoid of consistent opportunities in the Indian team, in any of the three formats. Despite scoring runs on a regular basis in domestic cricket, be it in white-ball cricket or red-ball, Ruturaj hasn't been able to earn the selectors' trust. The opening batter was overlooked for the Bangladesh T20I series, with suggestions emerging that his absence is due to the selection committee's red-ball plans for him. But, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Gaikwad's name was nowhere to be found.
Indian cricket team fast bowler Mohammed Shami took to social media to react to not getting selected for the upcoming Test series against Australia. Shami has been missing in action since the ODI World Cup 2023 final after suffering an ankle injury in November. The pacer underwent surgery and completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) before his return was derailed by swelling in his knees. While Shami recently said that he has no pain in his knees anymore, the selectors decided to not include him for the much-anticipated series.
Former India batter Manoj Tiwary has criticised captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir after the Test series loss to New Zealand on Saturday. Rohit and co's loss to the Kiwis in the second Pune Test marked the end of an 18-series winning streak at home for Team India. Following the embarrassing loss, Rohit and Gambhir have come under the scanner for their approach and team selection. During a discussion, Tiwary warned Rohit and Gambhir of "cracks in the dressing room."
Australia forward Allan Alaalatoa believes the upcoming tests against England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland will serve as essential preparation for the Wallabies' pack ahead of next year's clashes with the British and Irish Lions.
Vijay Dahiya has known Gautam Gambhir for over two decades while navigating the choppy waters of Delhi cricket together, hence he is certain that his former teammate would address Indian team's tough transition phase in his inimitable chin-up style. For India's current head coach, the Test series defeat against New Zealand at home, a first in 12 years and after 18 victories on the trot, would be a bitter pill to swallow. But Gambhir can't be faulted if there's a sense of déjà vu.
Australia head coach Andrew McDonald has acknowledged that Mohammed Shami's absence is a big loss for India, but added his team won't take the pacers who replace him lightly during the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy series starting on November 22 in Perth, citing the Gabba Test win of the visitors' in 2021. Shami has been out of action since last year's ODI World Cup in India due to an achilles injury which needed surgery this year. But there's a possibility that Shami might join the Indian team for the second half of the Australia tour provided he proves his fitness and readiness in Bengal's last two Ranji Trophy matches at Bengaluru and Indore respectively.
