Gillingham director of football Kenny Jackett has spoken about speculation linking the club to Cheltenham striker Alfie May.
May, 29, has been linked with a move to the Gills on numerous occasions and hopes have heightened this summer as the club go in search of a handful of key targets to strengthen their promotion hopes in League 2 this season.
Charlton Athletic and Derby County have both been touted as a potential new club if they are willing to stump up the cash to take him away from Cheltenham.
The Gills might like the striker but aren’t in the race at present, however. Jackett, speaking on Thursday, said: “We haven't made an offer. “He is a local lad, that is maybe where the speculation comes from, but he is under contract at Cheltenham and we haven’t made an offer.” Whether that changes remains to be seen but the striker won’t come cheap and the Gills have already said they are taking a sensible approach to their summer recruitment.
