Speculation over Gary Lineker's future with Match of the Day has spiked recently, with the iconic Saturday evening football highlights programme potentially facing a huge shake-up.

Former Leicester and Tottenham striker Lineker, the show's host for the past 25 years and a mainstay in BBC's sports punditry, is out of contract at the end of the Premier League season.

This month, rumours gained momentum when a purported email from director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski discussing an exit for Lineker was leaked.

Though alarm bells sounded, the BBC quickly responded to quell fears, stating: "We have nothing to announce, and we have not agreed on the next steps regarding his contract.
