Everton are set to “push on” in their attempts to sign Burnley attacker Maxwel Cornet, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. Frank Lampard is hoping to sign a forward player following Richarlison’s move to Tottenham, and the Ivory Coast international has emerged as a potential replacement.
According to The Sun, Everton are interested in making Cornet their second summer signing, with his ex-Burnley teammate James Tarkowski their only addition so far.
However, while the Clarets are prepared to sell him for £18m following their relegation back to the Championship, the Toffees’ initial bid was a loan with a view to a permanent deal, which is why their offer was knocked back by Vincent Kompany’s charges.
The report adds that Cornet is keen on staying in the Premier League after his exploits last season, with Fulham also in the race, while Newcastle have previously been offered his services.
