Erik ten Hag has said Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are battling to start on the left wing for Manchester United. United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League at the weekend and Ten Hag has made three changes to face FC Twente on Wednesday, with Matthijs de Ligt, Kobbie Mainoo and Garnacho coming out of the team for Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte and Rashford.
Pundits questioned why Rashford was named on the bench against Crystal Palace but Ten Hag clarified in his post-match press conference that it was due to rotation.
Ten Hag was asked about the situation again by TNT Sports ahead of facing Dutch side FC Twente and he said that Rashford is currently fighting with Garnacho, who has started the season by producing the most goals and assists in the squad, to start on the left wing. "I think when you list all the games so far, it's Garnacho who has the most goals and assists for us so far, so that's also a consideration every time we have to make." Ten Hag has picked a strong team for United's opening game of their Europa League campaign and Christian Eriksen has notably made the starting XI for a fourth successive game.
