After a convincing victory over Australia in their opening Cricket World Cup 2023 match, India made a big change in their playing XI for the second match, swapping Ravichandran Ashwin with Shardul Thakur in the team.

After India skipper Rohit Sharma announced the news at the time of toss, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar couldn't hide his frustration seeing Ashwin being sacrificed once again.

In a chat with the broadcaster, Gavaskar admitted that he isn't sure what Ashwin has done wrong to be in such a situation. In fact, Gavaskar also rued the absence of Mohammed Shami from India's playing XI, especially considering the fact that he had taken a hat-trick against the same team in 2019. "Once again Ashwin misses out, I don't know what he has done wrong.

He is used to being left out of the team. I thought what Shami had done against them (Afghanistan) in 2019, getting a hat-trick, he would get a go," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

India captain Rohit Sharma confirmed that no change was made to the team's playing XI from the last match against New Zealand. As the Indian team geared up for the Cricket World Cup 2023 match against defending champions England, Ravichandran Ashwin remained on the bench, with the team management opting for three seamers and two spinners. There were suggestions that Ashwin could be included in the Indian team but the nature of the pitch and the conditions in Lucknow prompted Team India to go with an unchanged XI.
The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is on a five-match winning streak at Cricket World Cup 2023. India, who have defeated strong teams like Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand so far in the tournament, are yet to lose their first game. Another fact that the hosts won all their matches by dominating margins makes them a serious contender for the coveted world title. While things are going really well for the side, former India batter S Badrinath praised captain Rohit but also focused on reminding the team about what happened back in 2019 World Cup.
Star India batter Virat Kohli was one big hit away from equalling former teammate and batting great Sachin Tendulkar's record of most ODI centuries. However, Kohli, who was batting on 95, holed out in the deep during India's World Cup 2023 match against New Zealand in Dharamsala last week. So far, Kohli has scored 48 tons in the format, only one less than the 'Master Blaster'. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, however, has predicted that Kohli will break Tendulkar's during the match against South Africa in Kolkata on November 5.
Glenn Maxwell re-wrote history books on Wednesday as the Australian cricket team star slammed a century in 40 balls against Netherlands. No one has reached the triple figure in ODI Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in lesser balls. Glenn Maxwell broke Aiden Markram's record of a 49-ball ton. The South African star had achieved the feat a few days ago at the Cricket World Cup 2023. Glenn Maxwell's innings was laden with eight sixes and nine fours. Maxwell reached the fifty run mark in 27 balls and then took just 13 more balls to reach the triple figure mark.
The Cricket World Cup 2023 showdown between India and New Zealand produced a fine contest between the top two sides of the campaign. Virat Kohli's 95 powered the Indian team to its 5th successive victory of the World Cup while New Zeland suffered their first defeat of the campaign. Virat unleashed some brilliant strokes during his stay on the 22-yard strip. One that got even the commentator Sunil Gavaskar off his seat was a pull shot off the front foot, something that Kohli's teammate Rohit Sharma is used to playing.
Virat Kohli's unbeaten century sealed India's fourth win from four World Cup matches as the hosts defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets on Thursday with the star batsman closing in on Sachin Tendulkar's record for ODI hundreds. Kohli reached his century and ended the match in style with a six against spinner Nasum Ahmed when he needed three runs to complete his century and India two more runs to reach a target of 257. While Kohli shone with the bat, captain Rohit Sharma (48) and Shubman Gill (52) also contributed to India's chase. Meanwhile, number 4 batter Shreyas Iyer fell for 19 runs.
