"Good Place To Swim": Afghanistan Captain's Dig At Noida Sports Complex Ahead Of New Zealand Test

The Afghanistan cricket team is all set to play a one-off Test against New Zealand from September 9-13 in Greater Noida. The Afghan side started their one-week preparatory camp at the Noida Sports Complex, but according to a report by The Indian Express, the start of their practice was far from ideal. Heavy rain in the Delhi NCR on Thursday meant that the Afghans had a hard time in training properly.

Shahidi hits ton but India bowl out Afghanistan for 218

CHENNAI: Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi hit his first ODI century but India bowled out Afghanistan for 218 as the hosts look to sweep the series in the third one-day international on Saturday. Seam bowler Prasidh Krishna took the first four wickets and returned figures of 5-23 as Afghanistan slumped to 36-4 before skipper Shahidi hit 102 to lift the total in Chennai. Shahidi put on 105 for the fifth wicket with Azmatullah Omarzai, who made 50, in a standout partnership after Afghanistan elected to bat first. Shahidi suffered cramps in hot and humid Chennai and limped toward the back end of his innings but reached his hundred with a four off Washington Sundar. India, who clinched the series with an unbeatable 2-0 lead, dominated through Krishna’s opening spell of 4-6 in his five overs including two maidens. Krishna sent back Rahmanullah Gurbaz (5), Rahmat Shah (5) and Ibrahim Zadran (11), all three batters caught by Rohit Sharma. Darwish Rasooli was next out for one before Shahidi and Omarzai put up a rescue act in their century stand to thwart the Indian attack. It was only temporary, though, as Prince Yadav broke through to dismiss Omarzai after the batters’ ninth ODI half-century. Mohammad Nabi made 21 in another stand with Shahidi before wickets tumbled and Shahidi, soon after his ton, fell to Krishna as the last wicket and the innings folded in 44.2 overs. It was Krishna’s maiden five-wicket haul in 50-overs format.

"Hoping West Indies Can Take Leaf Out Of Afghanistan": Vivian Richards

Champions Trophy 2025 will be remembered for the ages to come. The 50-over format tournament returned after a hiatus of eight years and saw numerous controversies even before the beginning. Defending champions Pakistan, who clinched the title in the 2017-edition, were the only hosts but India's games were played in Dubai due to the political tension between the two nations. As per the expectations, Rohit Sharma and co gave an exemplary performance and entered the semi-finals after remaining unbeatable in the league stage.

Steve Smith Hails Bowlers After Australia Book Champions Trophy Semifinals Berth

Australia's stand-in skipper Steve Smith lavished praise on his disciplined bowlers after the team secured a semi-final spot in the ongoing Champions Trophy following a rain-abandoned match against Afghanistan on Friday. Australia was in control at 109/1 in 12.5 overs, chasing 274, when a downpour left the field waterlogged. Following a two-hour delay, the match was called off, ensuring Australia's qualification with four points. "That's what we were after in the start, to finish in the top two and qualify for the semis. I thought the guys did a good job, made good changes and took wickets in the middle. Did well to restrict them to 270 and we were in a good position," said Smith in the post-match interaction with the broadcaster.

Afghanistan wins toss and elects to bat against Australia in must-win Champions Trophy game

LAHORE: Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the coin toss under overcast conditions and elected to bat in Afghanistan’s must-win last Group B game of the Champions Trophy against Australia on Friday. Afghanistan made a big turnaround in the tournament when it eliminated England with a stunning eight-run victory at the same venue on Wednesday. Afghanistan, which lost the first match to South Africa by 107 runs, went with the same playing XI for the third successive game and banked on three spinners — Mohammad Nabi, Noor Ahmad and ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan. Australia has three points from its record-breaking 352-run chase against England and a point from its washout game against South Africa at Rawalpindi. Australia named an unchanged side. New Zealand and India have already qualified for the semifinals from Group A with host Pakistan and Bangladesh eliminated. Afghanistan Skipper Agitated Over Glenn Maxwell Query Ahead Of Australia Clash: "Not Coming To The Ground..."

The Afghanistan team has chalked out plans for the entire Australian side and is not just focussed on its bete noire Glenn Maxwell, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi said on the eve of their must-win Champions Trophy match. Having knocked England out of the tournament with a memorable eight-run win here on Wednesday, Afghanistan are now seeking to get the better of Australia at the same venue on Friday and book a semifinal berth. "You think we will come only to play with Maxwell? Do you think it will be like that? We have planned for entire Australian team, and I know that he (Maxwell) played really well in the 2023 World Cup, but that's part of the history," Shahidi said at the pre-match press conference on Thursday.

Buoyant Afghanistan Plot Australia Downfall After Dumping Out England

Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi on Thursday targeted another big scalp in the form of Australia after knocking England out of the Champions Trophy, with a semi-final spot the prize. Joe Root In Tears After Afghanistan Knock England Out Of Champions Trophy 2025 - Video

Opener Ibrahim Zadran's 177 and five wickets by Azmatullah Omarzai helped Afghanistan knock England out of the Champions Trophy with a thrilling eight-run victory on Wednesday. Afghanistan posted 325-7 in a virtual knockout tie in Lahore and then bowled out England for 317 in 49.5 overs to stay alive in the race for a semi-final place while England have no chance of reaching the last four. Joe Root's 120 went in vain as England lost regular wickets to lose their second straight ODI to the Afghans after their shock defeat in the 2023 World Cup in India. Needing 13 off the last six balls with one wicket in hand, pace bowler Omarzai kept calm to give away just four runs and dismiss Adil Rashid.
