Bacary Sagna believes Manchester City have signed a good player in the form of Mateo Kovacic, but that he is no direct replacement for the departed Ilkay Gundogan.
Kovacic made the move over the summer from Chelsea to become City's first signing of the transfer window. The Etihad Stadium club have paid an initial fee of £25m for the Croatia international.
He fills the gap left in the squad by Gundogan, who left City upon the expiry of his contract after signing off by winning the Treble.
The former City captain and German international has moved on a free transfer to Spanish giants Barcelona. Former Man City defender Sagna, who played for the Blues between 2014 and 2017 after moving from Arsenal, believes Kovacic is a fine player and offers many aspects to Pep Guardiola's side.
