Liverpool kicked off the new season in the perfect way as they beat fierce rivals Manchester City 3-1 in the Community Shield.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, the ever-reliable Mohamed Salah and newbie Darwin Nunez saw the Reds to a comfortable win at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s side tore out of the blocks in the early stages and looked far the sharper of the two outfits. That pressure soon told as the aforementioned Alexander-Arnold curled one in to the far corner after a Salah lay off.

However, as is City’s way, they were able to force a foothold in the clash and, after a number of chances went a-begging, snatched an equaliser through Julian Alvarez.
