Former Manchester United and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has been assigned to Celtic's away clash with Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League by CBS Sports after his controversial rant at the Etihad Stadium during the last matchday.
Following City's goalless draw with Inter on Matchday One, Schmeichel took it upon himself to criticise the home fans for creating what he perceived as being a lack of atmosphere. "I love good football and I like excitement from the crowd but it was dead - the Eithad today was absolutely dead," the Dane told the CBS Sports Golazo panel last month. "The only people we could hear were the Inter supporters, they were quite good, but there was no atmosphere in the Etihad today.
Normally you think of big European nights [having a certain atmosphere] but it didn't happen for them." Maybe they left all the atmosphere on Saturday [when Micah was in attendance] because it was so flat." Unsurprisingly, Schmeichel's comments were widely criticised especially because many fans have been priced out of attending fixtures in the Champions League due to ticket prices and the cost of living crisis.
