The West End and Broadway hit musical Come From Away will be coming to the Lowry in December as part of its first ever tour of the UK and Ireland.

It will play for a month from December 3, 2024, to January 5, 2025. The show, which has received rave reviews on both sides of the Atlantic, has played over 1,000 times in the West End to 850,000 people at the Phoenix Theatre.

It tells the amazing story of when flights were grounded in the immediate wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. 7,000 passengers from around the world were left stranded when 38 planes were forced to land at the remote Gander Airport in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The small town, which had a population of only 12,000, had to quickly rally around the new arrivals - the ‘come from aways’ - many inviting them into their own homes. Characters in the musical are based on many of the real people involved, including the town’s mayor, the first female American Airlines captain, the mother of a firefighter in New York and a local news reporter, with the friendships that were forged along the way.
