BREAKING: Man, 76, seriously hurt after being hit by car near Aldi with driver arrested

A 76-year-old man was seriously hurt after being hit by a car in Middleton. The man was knocked down by a Vauxhall Astra on Wood Street, near the Aldi store and Albion Inn pub, at around 1.35pm yesterday (Wednesday).

He was rushed to hospital from the scene, police said. The driver - a 63-year-old man - was arrested on the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

The victim and his family are being supported by specialist officers. A cordon was put in place on Wood Street yesterday as investigations were carried out.
