Xavi has revealed he hopes to add two more midfielders to his Barcelona squad this summer and believes the Catalan club have found the 'ideal position' for Frenkie de Jong.
United agreed an €85million fee with Barca for De Jong last summer. However, the midfielder's wage deferral stalled the deal and he eventually stayed at Camp Nou.
Although De Jong publicly pledged his commitment to Barcelona last year, he privately informed Erik ten Hag he would be prepared to join United.
The United boss remains an admirer of his countryman, despite not being able to get a deal over the line last summer. However, though it has not been ruled out that United could make a return for De Jong this summer, with the Old Trafford club having agreed personal terms with Mason Mount and negotiating with Chelsea over a transfer fee, it seems unlikely another bid will be made.
