Arne Engels dreading Celtic initiation song but Robbie Williams anthem taking off would be music to his ears

Arne Engels wasn’t even born when Robbie Williams was topping the charts – but hearing the Take That star’s most famous song in the Parkhead stands will be music to his ears.

The Belgian ace has been blown away by the response from Hoops fans to his record breaking £11million move. And he’s noticed there are already some punters chanting his name to the tune of Williams’ 1997 smash hit ‘Angels’. Supporters were gutted to see Matt O’Riley depart but are now ready to love Engels instead – and the playmaker has told Celts he’s out to entertain them.

The former Augsburg ace said: “I saw some comments about that Robbie Williams song under my picture on social media. That would be really nice, I’d love that! It would be amazing. The fans are showing so much support, so I’d like to show something back for them if they see me. That would be nice, it would be no problem.

“To live here, it’s a nice city, so it’s going to be okay, it’s going to be good. I just want to be myself and make a name for myself, that is what I will do and what I am good at.

“I want to show everybody what I can do, and not think about what somebody else is doing or did here. It’s just for me to show it to everybody.”

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Engels. He checked in on deadline day and immediately received his first proper call up for the Belgium senior squad. He made his Celtic debut from the bench in the 3-0 Old Firm win and then did the same for his national side – with his 21st birthday in between.

There’s not even been time to sing his initiation song at Parkhead yet. Engels said: “Is there an initiation? Not that I know of – I hope not! I don’t know, but if it comes then I’ll do it, and it will be enjoyable for the guys to laugh a bit with
