Man City dream scenario as Kalvin Phillips transfer decided

Kalvin Phillips is wanted by a trio of Premier League clubs as Manchester City continue to work on an exit strategy for the midfielder.

Phillips saw game time at centre back for City during their pre season tour but was back on the bench for the Community Shield success against Manchester United. The England international is set to leave the Etihad this summer but it remains to be seen if any interested club will stump up an acceptable fee or if City have to settle for a loan switch.

The 28 year old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham but the move failed to work out for player or either club. With the transfer window closing in a little over a fortnight, we asked our writers for the dream scenario for City.

City don't tend to loan senior players out unless something has gone seriously wrong - see Joe Hart or Joao Cancelo.

The Blues would take a permanent offer for Kalvin Phillips this summer but it's a sign of how badly things have gone over the past two years that there aren't clubs out there willing to show that they will take him permanently.
Nobody at the Etihad has a bad word to say about Phillips around the club, he just hasn't been able to catch a break or snap himself out of the slump in the two years since he moved from Leeds.

You only need to listen to Gareth Southgate during the European Championship this summer to see how important Phillips has previously been.

A loan may not feel like a win to anyone this summer, but if Phillips can rediscover his form and stay fit this season in the Premier League it will become a victory
