Zwane believes Chiefs are on the 'right track' despite Royal AM defeat
Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane took a number of positives from his side's 1-0 loss to Royal AM on the opening day of the new DStv Premiership season.
Ricardo Nascimento netted the only goal of the match after just two minutes as Amakhosi got off to the worst possible start.
But reflecting on the match, the new Chiefs boss explained that despite the defeat, they played some progressive football and created a number of chances to score.
Zwane said on SuperSport: "I think we started very slow, we gave them a goal that they did not deserve, you could see the first minute they got a corner, from that corner because of lapse in concentration we conceded.
"But I think from then on, it was more like a wake-up call; we created I don't know how many one v ones in terms of goal-scoring opportunities."
Zwane added: "I mean, if the goalkeeper is the Man of the Match, that alone tells you that he's the one who saved them. But I think the second half, we did not create enough chances in terms of being clinical.
"But it's our first game, and I think we're on the right track. I'm proud of the boys' effort. I think they gave their all today, unfortunately, it wasn't to be.
"I think the boys did very well, and we can learn from this game; we'll try rectify our mistakes, but we're getting somewhere."
Amakhosi are back in action on Tuesday against Maritzburg United.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
