Lack of cutting edge not a concern for Pirates coach Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro said he wasn't concerned about his team’s lack of finishing in the build-up to Saturday's MTN8 quarter-final clash against Royal AM on Saturday.

There has been criticism of Pirates' inability to score goals; however, coach Riveiro has defended his team’s lack of cutting edge and said he is not concerned.

"I'm sorry I have to repeat myself, but it's not a concern. My concern is to create chances. Yesterday, we didn't create enough, for example”.

Rivero went on to say: "If it's 1-0, it's 1-0 and if we are leading 1-0 and we suffer more in the last ten minutes, I'm so sorry I'm suffering as well on the bench. It's [scoring goals] going to happen, sooner rather than later."

With games coming thick and fast, significant injuries have been relatively kind to Riveiro's side, as he stated that there are no concerns in that regard.

"We had one injury while everyone else in the squad is suffering hits, knocks, accidents."

Asked if the recent victory in the league – which pushed Pirates to the top of the log - was important for this game, Riveiro said ensuring momentum was vital.

"It's important to continue with positive results even though it's a different competition. The victories in difficult circumstances will help build the confidence and trust".

He added that as this is a knockout game, the approach would be different: "We are in a knockout game, there are some differences in how you approach those games".

Given that this is the second encounter against Royal AM in as many as ten days, what changes, tactically, can spectators expect?

"We played one week ago and none of the teams had enough time to implement many changes," Riveiro added.

Kick-off on Saturday 18:00.
