Zion Suzuki rejects Manchester United

Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki has rejected Manchester United to join Belgian club STVV.

It is understood United agreed a fee with Urawa Red Diamonds for Suzuki but he favoured a move to the Belgian Pro League side. STVV are a Japanese-owned club.

United felt Suzuki, 20, needed two more years before he was ready to have an impact in the Premier League.

United are looking to sign another goalkeeper this summer after the arrival of Andre Onana as their new number one.

Elsewhere in the United goalkeeper department, Tom Heaton is staying after productive talks with manager Erik ten hag.

Goalkeeper Heaton, 37, sought clarification on his future during United’s pre-season tour of the United States amid interest from Luton Town and Hull City.

Heaton started in five of United's seven pre-season games and is understood to have had a "good conversation" with Ten Hag.

Ten Hag made Heaton captain for the 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao in Dublin on Sunday and the former England goalkeeper is encouraged by his recent increased playing time.

United sold back-up goalie Nathan Bishop to Sunderland last week, while Matej Kovar was omitted from the pre-season tour squad ahead of another intended loan move.
