Zidane Iqbal appears to confirms surprise Manchester United departure with social media response

Zidane Iqbal has appeared to confirm his Manchester United exit by thanking a fan page for wishing him good luck in his next move.

It emerged on Tuesday night that United had accepted an offer from FC Utrecht for academy graduate Iqbal and sources confirmed the bid to be around €1million, which will see the midfielder move to the Eredivisie on a four-year deal.

Iqbal completed a medical on Monday afternoon and his 11-year spell with United is now coming to an end. The youngster joined the academy aged nine and he became the first British South Asian footballer to represent the club.

The 20-year-old made his debut against BSC Young Boys in the Champions League in December 2021 and he was named in the matchday squad 17 times this season, despite failing to make an appearance under Erik ten Hag.

A loan exit for Iqbal was expected this summer and news of his departure has surprised supporters, although the player appeared to confirm it on social media by thanking a supporter page on Instagram for their well wishes.

Iqbal wrote: "Thank you," with a love heart emoji to the post that said it 'hurts' to see him leave the club for FC Utrecht. The Manchester-born lad is still yet to share a response across his own social media channels.

The move to Utrecht comes shortly after Iqbal changed agents. He signed with Sports Entertainment Group in April and Ten Hag shares the same agency, who are understood to have promised him a move to the Eredivisie.

Iqbal played just 13 times for the Under-21s this season due to his involvement with the first-team squad.
