Zak Hardaker progressing well as Rohan Smith hints at second Leeds debut

Leeds head coach Rohan Smith says Zak Hardaker could feature for the Rhinos this weekend.

However, the player will be required to tick a few more boxes before he can return to the field.

Hardaker, 30, returned to Headingley Stadium on a deal until the end of the current season following his release from Wigan.

He resumed to training last week after suffering a suspected seizure in his first week back at the club. He was taken to Wakefield’s Pinderfields hospital after being taken ill while out walking with his young son.

Hardaker, who can feature at centre or full-back, has been progressing well with his recovery, confirmed head coach Smith.

The Leeds boss said that Hardaker is very close to making his second debut for the club.

Leeds travel to the AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday to face Salford Red Devils in Round 12 of the Super League.

“He’s had very good progression over the last week or so following the medical advice,” Smith said during his first pre-match press conference.

“He got through a good session yesterday. He needs to get through another session tomorrow and have another assessment from the doctor. Then he could well be available for selection.

“If he’s available for selection, he’ll be selected.”
