Brits all across the country could be making their home unnecessarily colder as temperatures continue to drop.
While it's tempting to immediately jump to switch the heating on full blast, this could not only be a waste of energy, but also make your home contradictorily colder. If you've noticed your home isn't feeling as hot as it should be, you may be making one blatant mistake.
Home expert Warren Kinloch Bathroom Deal says many people put their furniture way too close to their radiators. This prevents it from heating up properly and efficiently distributing heat, the Mirror reports.

"Furniture acts as a barrier, preventing warm air from circulating freely around the room," he reveals. "To optimise heat flow, ensure that there is sufficient space between your furniture and radiators.
"This can allow the warm air to circulate freely and warms up the entire room more efficiently."
If you're certain your furniture is all in the right place but are still feeling chilly with the heating on, it may be a good idea to double check your doors and windows. Poorly sealed windows and doors can allow drafts to come into your home, fighting against the heating being generated from your heating system.
Warren suggests homeowners to run their hand along the edges and frames to check for drafts. If you do notice something's not right, you can use caulk or weather stripping to immediately fix the issue.
Theoretically, this could also be a more cost-effective solution instead of replacing older windows and doors altogether to help improve insulation and reduce heat loss.
