Xavier Amaechi Bolton Wanderers transfer admission as ex-Arsenal winger's performance assessed

Ian Evatt admits he does not know if Xavier Amaechi will be back at Bolton Wanderers next season as plans develop on the club's transfer plans ahead of the upcoming summer window.

The season is drawing to a close at Wanderers with Evatt's side seeking to finish in the top 10 in their first campaign back in League One since 2020.

There are just two games left to go this campaign for the Whites, with the final away day of the season this weekend against Cheltenham Town, before taking on Fleetwood Town at home at the end of April.

Amaechi featured from the start in the 3-1 Easter Monday win over Accrington Stanley, which was only his third time he has begun a game this season.

Former Arsenal youngster Amaechi has been on loan from German side Hamburg this season, with his initial spell extended until the end of the campaign.

And Evatt admits he does not know if Amaechi will return to Wanderers next campaign, with his contract at Hamburg running until the summer of 2023.

Plans are well under way for a summer of recruitment to build upon the success of this season and bridge the gap to the top of the division for next season, but it is uncertain if Amaechi will be part of that charge in the 2022/23 campaign.

Asked if Amaechi could be back at Wanderers next season, Evatt told the Manchester Evening News: “I don’t know. We’re looking at things all the time. We’ll have a look at recruitment. We’ve certainly started to make plans and there’s conversations happening behind the scenes.
