Xavi Simons sends wordless message to Joshua Zirkzee amid Manchester United transfer links

Joshua Zirkzee has been sent a message by Xavi Simons after completing a move to Manchester United.

Zirkzee was confirmed as the first signing of the summer transfer window by United on Sunday afternoon. The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Old Trafford that sees him commit his future to the Reds until 2029, with the option of a further year.

Following the departure of Anthony Martial as a free agent this summer, United now have Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as their main striker options in the squad. It remains to be seen what further additions will be made by United before the transfer window closes on September 2, with two new centre-backs known to be a priority.

Soon after the transfer was confirmed, Zirkzee posted an emotional message on Instagram to Bologna to thank the Serie A club. The striker had spent two years with the Italian outfit after signing for the club from Bayern Munich back in 2022.

One of the comments on the post came from Simons, who was a teammate of Zirkzee's for the Netherlands at Euro 2024. Simons did not write any words in his comment but used three heart emojis to send to his compatriot.

Reports in recent days have seen Simons' future the subject of intense speculation. The versatile playmaker spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain and has been linked with a move away from the Ligue 1 club this summer.
