Xabi Alonso to Liverpool worry raised as Leverkusen job praised but tough to follow Jurgen Klopp act

Peter Crouch has raised one main concern over Xabi Alonso replacing Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The current Bayer Leverkusen boss has worked wonders this campaign with his team, containing former Celtic defender Jeremie Frimpong, flying high at the top of the Bundesliga. They are TEN points clear of Bayern Munich in the race for the league crown while they are also in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals against Dusseldorf and also still in the fight for Europa League glory. They are YET to lose a single league game this campaign with that form and success catching the eye.

Klopp has decided his time at Anfield is over come the summer with the search for a successor underway. Alonso - who starred for Liverpool as a player - continues to be linked and while Crouch agrees he is a standout candidate for the role, he has expressed that is it still very EARLY days in his managerial career having only landed his current dugout gig back in October 2022.

He said on TNT Sports: "I think he's the standout candidate. He's done incredible things at Leverkusen, knows the club [Liverpool] inside out. I've played with him, I know the person. He's a fantastic person, very studious, was always asking questions and you knew he was going to be a manager. But it is very early days and it's a massive club and you've got to follow Jurgen Klopp. Only time will tell."

Alonso has learnt heaps from famous bosses like Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti. This knowledge helped him to start coaching at Real Sociedad, the club where his football journey began.
