Germany to close door on Jurgen Klopp appointment as Julian Nagelsmann impresses Euro 2024 hosts

Germany might not pick Jurgen Klopp as their coach because they want to keep Julian Nagelsmann for longer. The German Football Federation (DFB) said they hope to make Nagelsmann's job last more than just until Euro 2024, where they face Scotlandin the opening game.

Nagelsmann, who used to be the Bayern Munich boss, started leading Germany's team in September 2023. He's done a good job so far, and DFB president Bernd Neuendorf thinks he should get a longer contract. This means that fans who wanted Klopp to coach Germany after he leaves Liverpool might be disappointed. Klopp has said he will stop managing Liverpool when this season ends, after being with them for nine years.

This led to speculation he would want to coach a national team. But Neuendorf's words show that the DFB likes Nagelsmann and doesn't want to change. Neuendorf told ZDF, after Germany beat France 2-0 on Saturday: "It would be absolutely desirable from our side (to extend Nagelsmann's contract). We're a good team, we get on well, we're in intensive dialogue.", reports the Mirror.

Nagelsmann also talked about his future recently. He seems like he wants to stay with Germany's team after the Euros this year. The former RB Leipzig manager confessed: "If I have a contract offer before the European Championship that I am happy with and where I say I feel comfortable and where I see myself, then there is a high probability that I will sign it before the European Championship."
