WWE SmackDown: Surprise main roster star wins title in impromptu NXT title match
Solo Sikoa, just over a week after his call-up to WWE’s main roster, is now the NXT North American Champion.
At Clash at the Castle on September 3, Solo Sikoa, who is the real-life brother of The Usos, helped his cousin Roman Reigns retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Drew McIntyre.
Solo officially joined The Bloodline six days later on SmackDown, so many fans speculated that the 39-year-old was now done with NXT.
Well, it doesn’t seem like Solo is finishing up with NXT anytime soon, as he beat Carmelo Hayes on last night’s show to become the North American Champion.
In what was an impromptu match, fans earned the right to choose Carmelo’s opponent for the show, and the audience opted to go for Wes Lee.
However, the former NXT Tag Team Champion was attacked backstage by Hayes and Trick Williams, which allowed Solo to make his return to NXT.
Solo hit Hayes with a wicked splash to secure the win in the title match, winning gold for the first time since signing with WWE in August 2021.
