WWE: Major update emerges on Cody Rhodes' return

WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes is said to be ahead of schedule when it comes to his recovery from injury.

Cody hasn’t been seen in WWE since June, when he beat Seth Rollins in the main event of Hell in a Cell.

Days before the show, Cody tore his pec completely off the bone, but heroically still competed in his match against Rollins.

When Cody was first injured, it was revealed by WWE that he'd be out of action for "several months", with rumours even suggesting he was unlikely to wrestle again in 2022.

Well, in what will come as good news to fans of the former AEW wrestler, Dave Meltzer is reporting Cody is ahead of schedule with regards to his injury return, via WrestleTalk.

In fact, the Wrestling Observer notes that Rhodes is pretty much back to "normal" when it comes to how he can function in real-life, but things are "extremely light" for him when it comes to training.

Rhodes appears to be a little ahead of schedule in healing. He’s working with DDP. Things are normal for him in real life but obviously any upper body weights he can use are extremely light.

With regards to when he'll be able to return, Meltzer says that while the Royal Rumble was previously planned, that could now be pushed forward to Day 1 on January 1, 2023.

There’s no firm date for a return this early, and even when there is, I would expect it’ll be kept quiet for a surprise pop. Originally the idea of Rumble looked good. Perhaps Day 1 since it’s in Atlanta and he grew up and still lives there.

Rhodes' return from injury is likely set for January 2023, as is the same for Becky Lynch, who has been advertised for the Royal Rumble at the end of the month.
