WWE legend Virgil asks fans for donations after revealing colon cancer diagnosis

Former wrestling fan favourite Virgil has appealed for help from fans after being diagnosed with colon cancer.

The American star, 59, went down in WWF [now WWE ] folklore for his stint as bodyguard for the 'Million Dollar Man', Ted DiBiase. After years of being humiliated by his boss, he famously turned on him at the 1991 Royal Rumble, hitting him with his own Million Dollar title belt.

He also received a shot at Bret Hart's World Heavyweight title in 1992, losing via submission. He was eventually released from the company two years later, and went on to have a four-year stint in WCW.

When that ended in 2010 Virgil, real name Michael Jones, continued to make sporadic appearances on the independent circuit. He even made a one-off return to the WWE in 2010, this time serving assistance to Ted DiBiase junior.

Then three years ago, he left fans stunned when he turned up at the new All Elite Wrestling promotion, under the name of Soul Train Jones. But these latest developments make the likelihood of him appearing in a 'squared circle' again remote.

On Saturday, he wrote on Twitter : "It’s really sh***y right now. Too make things worse I know have stage 2 colon cancer. I am a fighter but need your help. I cannot afford any of the medical bills and would love your support."

The Nashville-born man concluded the message by posting a link to a Paypal page and said: "Love you guys." The fundraising appeal was already up and running after Virgil suffered two strokes last month, prompting false rumours that he had passed away.

He responded by posting on social media: "THIS IS NOT TRUE. I am alive and Meatsauce is running through my veins. Am I well? No. I need help getting through this difficult journey. Can I ask my fans to
