Salomon Rondon releases Everton statement after Brentford red card

Everton striker Salomon Rondon has apologised for his red card during yesterday’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford and said he is ‘truly sorry’.

Rondon was sent off with two minutes remaining after spending just four minutes on the pitch for a reckless lunge on Brentford left-back Rico Henry. The Toffees already had Jarred Branthwaite sent off in controversial circumstances after 18 minutes so Rondon’s challenge reduced his side to nine men for the dying embers of the game. The result leaves Frank Lampard’s side two points clear of the drop zone after yesterday’s results where Leeds drew to Brighton and Burnley lost at Tottenham.

Rondon posted an Instagram story after the game apologising for his sending off. He said: “I will always give my all on the pitch. I always want to help my club, teammates and fans. I tried to do that today and know that I wasn’t up to it in one incident and am truly sorry. My apologies from the bottom of my heart to the whole @Everton family.”

Rondon, who has scored one goal in 20 Premier League appearances this term, will now be missing for the rest of the season as he adds to Everton’s ever-growing list of absentees.
