"Wouldn't be a total surprise" - Journalist drops claim on Bruce bringing free-agent to West Brom

Journalist Pete O’Rourke wouldn’t be surprised to see West Brom sign Jack Wilshere.

The 30-year-old is a free agent following his release from Bournemouth at the end of last season but could be in line for a return to Championship football.

It’s been a frustrating time since the midfielder wasn’t offered a new contract by the Cherries. In fact, he’s facing the prospect of not playing a single minute in a season for the first time since he missed the entire 2011-2012 campaign through injury.

But GiveMeSport’s Dean Jones recently revealed that Wilshere could make a return to football, with West Brom eyeing up a move for the free agent, who’s able to sign out of a transfer window because he’s without a club.

Wilshere hasn’t played a single first-team appearance since coming off the bench in Bournemouth’s play-off game with Brentford back in May but has been training with Arsenal to maintain his fitness levels.

Therefore, with Steve Bruce looking to stamp his authority on his West Brom side, who are currently ninth in the Championship table following three defeats on the bounce, O’Rourke reckons that the ex-Gunners midfielder could become an option for the newly-appointed Baggies boss.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It wouldn’t be a total surprise [to see West Brom sign Jack Wilshere]. I’m sure Steve Bruce will be looking to freshen things up at West Brom, obviously Wilshere is a free agent, so West Brom would be able to bring him in.”
