Steve Bruce 'knows and trusts' free-agent West Brom target

Journalist Pete O’Rourke can see the logic behind West Brom boss Steve Bruce potentially bringing in Mohamed Diame as a free agent in the near future.

Diame has plenty of experience in English football, having made over 300 appearances in the top two divisions across the course of his career.

The 35-cap international is currently without a club after leaving Qatari side Al-Ahli last summer.

Therefore, despite the transfer window closing at the end of January, he is available to be picked up on a free between now and the end of the season.

Diame played under Bruce at Hull earlier in his career, helping the Tigers earn promotion to the Premier League in 2016.

It has been reported that Bruce has been offered the opportunity to work with Diame again if he wants to hand the 34-year-old a contract at the Hawthorns.

O’Rourke believes that Bruce has a lot of faith in Diame, and has suggested that it could make sense for West Brom to snap up the experienced midfielder.

When asked for his thoughts on Diame potentially joining the Baggies, O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think it would do any harm to West Brom. I think Steve Bruce would obviously like players that he knows and trusts.

“He obviously knows Mo Diame quite well, having signed him at Hull. Obviously, he’s a free agent.”

The 6 foot 1 star has not played a single minute of football this season, which is bound to be a concern for West Brom if they are considering signing him. Realistically, it could take a while for him to get back up to speed after a lengthy absence.

However, this could be the time in the season where West Brom need to take a calculated risk.

The Midlands club have been in poor form over the last couple of months, and have dropped out of the play-off
