West Brom latest news: Steve Bruce could utilise the free agent in the coming weeks

Journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that Steve Bruce will still be targeting the free transfer market as he looks to improve his West Brom squad in the coming weeks.

It’s been a disastrous start to life in the Hawthorns hotseat for Bruce, who’s Baggies outfit are yet to score or win in his first three games.

West Brom’s season was in danger of going up in smoke even before Bruce’s appointment, but his arrival hasn’t yet helped steady the ship.

With every passing week, they’re sliding further down the Championship standings and now find themselves in 11th, four points behind the top-six.

The 2-0 defeat at Luton on Saturday, which Bruce described as the lowest point of their season, saw their winless run extend to five games, while they haven’t found the net for more than seven-and-a-half hours since Grady Diangana struck against Peterborough all the way back on 22 January.

With January signing Daryl Dike currently out injured and Andy Carroll yet to score his first Baggies goal, O’Rourke reckons that Bruce might lean towards the unattached market with the addition of a free agent or two.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I’m sure Bruce will still be looking at the free agent market, seeing where he can strengthen the team because goals have been a major issue for West Brom this season and if they’re not careful they could find themselves out of this promotion race pretty quickly if they don’t sort things out on the pitch pretty soon.”

West Brom are by no means dead and buried, but it looks an extremely tall order for Bruce to guide them back into the top-six.

In theory, they have 14 games to make up a four point gap, which doesn’t sound the toughest of tasks.
