"Would be good business" - Journalist drops Rangers claim as big decision looms on key Ibrox duo

Rangers would be conducting ‘good business’ if they managed to agree fresh contracts for Ibrox duo Steven Davis and Scott Arfield, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Gers suffered a major blow in their bid to secure back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles after a 2-1 Old Firm derby defeat allowed arch-rivals Celtic to race six points clear at the top of the standings on Sunday, but it appears the club are looking to make progress behind-the-scenes.

As things stand, Davis has entered the final stages of his Rangers career as his £13,000-per-week agreement is due to expire in the summer.

During the recent international break, the 130-cap Northern Ireland captain insisted he was relaxed about the contract situation due to negotiations only getting underway at a similar time last year.

The midfielder told BT Sport, via The National, that negotiations were ongoing between Rangers and his representatives in February but it appears a breakthrough has not been made.

Managing director Stewart Robertson previously revealed that Gers sporting director Ross Wilson has been in regular dialogue with stars whose contracts will run out in the coming months.
