“Would be a sensational piece of business” – Blackburn Rovers eyeing move for Barnsley player: The verdict

The Championship side are looking to close a deal for the 24-year old that could be worth up to £1.5 million ahead of the new season starting later this month.

Here we ask our FLW writers their verdict on if he would be a good addition to Jon Dahl Tomasson’s squad… 

This would be a sensational piece of business for Rovers, and possibly even an upgrade on the departed Ryan Nyambe. 

Brittain is one of a few players who can hold their head up after a terrible 2021/22 campaign for Barnsley, and the 24-year-old is definitely capable of playing at a higher level than League One this season. 

Brittain is very comfortable on the ball, versatile and can take on a small portion of the creative burden at Ewood Park. 

Joe Rankin-Costello has his best years ahead of him, but may not be ready to step into the right wing back or right back berth as first choice, Brittain’s arrival would solve that dilemma.

Callum Brittain would be a great signing for Blackburn ahead of next season.

With Ryan Nyambe’s contract at Ewood Park expiring, it leaves Rovers in need of a right-back so Brittain is a signing they need.

Not only is he a player that’s solid defensively, but he also has the ability to push further up the pitch and contribute to his side’s attacking efforts so he should fit in well with the side.

Although Barnsley had a poor season last year, he gained Championship experience so will know what to expect from the league and at just 24-years-old he can definitely push his game further in a better side.

Given the loss of Ryan Nyambe, this signing would make quite a lot of sense for Blackburn. 

There is an obvious gap in the side in which Brittain would easily slot into as the starting player.
