Wordle: Do you cheat at Wordle?

Do you cheat at Wordle?

It’s a question that you might not want to answer immediately but you should know now that if you do, you aren’t alone!

A new study has now discovered more than 1 in 10 players cheat when they’re playing the smash-hit word game on the New York Times website.

Now, of course, all results are self-reported when it comes to Wordle, with players posting their results on social media.

As a result, there have naturally always been doubts over whether players who consistently get the answer in one or two guesses are doing so legitimately or are cheating.

The website Solitaired, via Gamerant, surveyed over 1,000 American players of the game and included a question asking if they had ever cheated while playing.

As we’ve mentioned, more than 1 in 10 said that they have cheated previously, although just 2% of cheaters say they do it every day, and 91% say they only do it once or twice a week.

It’s interesting to know exactly how those players are cheating, though.

A total of 48% of cheaters say they have gone online and looked up the answer before putting it in on the Wordle website, while 42% say they have used a word list, helping them to whittle down the potential answers. That, though, doesn’t give them an exact answer.

Another 20% of cheaters say they ask other players for hints or for the answer.

But it seems that the majority of players who are posting their Wordle results every day are getting the answer legitimately, which may bring some comfort to those players who have never cheated!

Now, it should also be said that the survey can’t exactly be trusted 100% as, much like Wordle, it relies on players being honest.

But if we’re taking them at face value, it seems like most Wordle answers are legit.
