'Wonderful' mum who was out for a jog killed by sleeping driver

A 'wonderful' mum-of-two who left home to go for a jog was knocked down and killed by a driver who'd fallen asleep at the wheel.

Glen Widdowson, 48, was returning home from a night shift when he veered onto the wrong side of the road, struck a kerb and hit Aimi McCaffery from behind. The 46-year-old died at the scene of the collision in Cropwell Butler, Nottinghamshire, on the morning of Sunday, May 15 2022.

Widdowson had been working as a night manager at a Leicestershire hotel throughout the previous evening. He has now been jailed after previously pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Widdowson, who was taking his usual route home through country lanes, was not speeding and remained at the scene of the collision. Investigators also discovered that he had been
