Woman praised after refusing to give up seat to elderly passenger on train

A woman has been showered with praise for her steely resolve, having refused to concede her seat to an elderly lady on a train journey to Scotland.

It is usually viewed as polite to give up one's seat for older people, the disabled, or pregnant women. This woman, however, was undeterred in her decision not to give up her priority seat, basing her stance on the fact she had made a prior booking and thus shouldn't be asked to move.

The woman embarked on a London to Aberdeen train service and had paid extra for a first-class ticket guaranteeing her a single seat, hoping to work uninterrupted during the travel.

But upon boarding, she discovered that her reserved spot was the carriage's priority seat, usually allocated to passengers with mobility troubles. Yet when a woman believed to be in her sixties demanded the seat, our passenger held her ground.

In a Reddit post expressing her annoyance, the woman narrated: "I recently got a train across the UK from London to Aberdeen. It's a seven-hour journey so I booked myself a first-class seat well in advance".

"First-class seats on trains in the UK can be expensive, but I decided to treat myself because 1), I knew I'd have work to do on the train, so I wanted to make sure I had space/comfort to be able to work, and 2), certain trains in the 'individual seats' which means you're not sitting next to or sitting opposite anyone. I specifically booked one of those seats to enable me to work.", reports Edinburgh Live.
