Asda worker hailed as 'absolute angel' after random act of kindness

An Asda checkout worker has been lavished with praise after stepping in when he saw a mum struggling at the till.

Alex, 22, who works at one of the supermarket giant's branches in Cheshire, has been described as an "absolute angel" by one mum after he paid for a fivers worth of sweets for her son when her payment declined.

Writing about the touching moment at the branch on Grange Road in Ellesmere Port in a local Facebook group, the mum said the Apple Pay function on her phone wouldn't work.

"He's always lovely, but today my little boy picked some sweets and my card kept declining and without hesitation he paid for them himself. He's an absolute angel. Thank you so much" she said.

Lots of customers also commented to praise Alex for the selfless act, the Liverpool Echo reports. One person said: "He is amazing. Such a lovely lad and always so helpful". Another added: "Always so cheerful and helpful" and a third person said: "Alex you are a treasure."

Alex said he didn't want to be reimbursed for the sweets which cost about £5. He said he did it as it brought a smile to the boy's face.

The store's customer service manager Lisa said: "Alex is a valued member of our team, always going above and beyond for our customers. We're always receiving lovely comments about how bubbly and friendly he is." He's always putting a smile on our customers' faces. He is a credit to our store and we're very lucky to have him."
