Wolves: Title-winning boss 'would jump at' Molineux role

Wolverhampton Wanderers managerial target Pedro Martins would ‘jump at’ the chance to take over the reins at Molineux following the departure of Bruno Lage, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Lage was sacked by the club after they slipped into the relegation zone in the wake of a 2-0 defeat to West Ham United, leaving chairman Jeff Shi on the lookout for a replacement.

According to reports in Portugal, the 52-year-old is in the advanced stages of negotiations regarding a move to the West Midlands.

The report adds that an agreement is yet to be signed between the two parties but that there is optimism a final consensus will be reached.

Martins was previously on the verge of taking over at Championship outfit Hull City earlier this season, only for the verbal agreement to fall through.

The Portuguese was recently installed as the new favourite to take on Lage’s old job after the club suffered a blow in the pursuit of their top target, Julen Lopetegui.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has relayed that the former Sevilla and Real Madrid manager turned down an approach from Wolves due to personal reasons.

O’Rourke believes that any job in the Premier League is going to appeal to most managers and that the Wolves role is a particularly good one.

The journalist points to the backing received by Lage during the summer as proof that the club are willing to support whoever is in the dugout.

O’Rourke told GIVEMESPORT: “I think if a job becomes available in the Premier League, it's going to be something that's going to be attractive to the likes of Pedro Martins. I think Wolves is a good job, they've shown they do back their manager because they did spend quite heavily in the transfer window in the summer as well.
