Wolves: 3-time title-winning boss 'might raise question marks' at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers would face ‘question marks’ from the Molineux fanbase if they appointed Pedro Martins as the club’s new boss, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The West Midlands outfit have been hunting for a successor to Bruno Lage since he was sacked by the hierarchy earlier this month.

According to Portuguese media outlet Mais Futebol, Wolves have entered advanced negotiations with Martins and are nearing an agreement.

The report suggests the 52-year-old – who previously managed the likes of Maritimo, Rio Ave and Vitoria Guimaraes – has not signed on the dotted line but is interested in the Molineux project.

Martins looked set to head to English football for the first time in his career earlier this month, when he reached a verbal agreement to take the Hull City job.

However, negotiations were cancelled after the Championship side were unable to meet the Portuguese's demands following extensive discussions.

Martins has been out of work since leaving Greek giants Olympiacos, where he won the title on three occasions, in August.

O'Rourke believes some Wolves supporters will be questioning whether Martins is the right man to lead the club forward after he was on the brink of being handed the reins at a second tier side a matter of days ago.

However, the journalist feels chairman Jeff Shi needs to make a decision quickly if he wants to climb away from danger.
