Man City: £40m Brazilian 'would fit Guardiola's profile' at the Etihad

Manchester City target Bruno Guimaraes would ‘fit the profile’ for the type of player Pep Guardiola would like to sign, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The 24-year-old has been outstanding for Newcastle United since arriving at the club from Lyon back in January and has already been linked with a move away as a result.

A recent report from the Daily Mail claimed that City pose ‘the most realistic danger for Newcastle’ if they want to keep Guimaraes at the club in the long term despite continuous speculation involving Real Madrid.

The Brazil international addressed the rumours surrounding his future in a recent interview, though, stating that he wants to become a Magpies ‘legend’.

"I never doubted the project, I believe in it. I always wanted to play in the Premier League, and I am now just enjoying that,” said Guimaraes. “The ground love me and I love them. I want to keep going.

"I want to be a legend here. Real Madrid is the best team in the world. It is nice. But it is just a conversation, it is nothing."

O’Rourke believes that Guimaraes would suit Guardiola’s style of play but has questioned where he would fit into the reigning champions’ midfield given their current options.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think he would be somebody who would fit the profile for the type of player Guardiola would like in his Manchester City team, but where does he get into this City side?

“They've got Rodri already in that defensive midfield role, they've also signed Kalvin Phillips from Leeds last summer as well. So, they are well stocked in that position, unless Guardiola sees a different role for Bruno Guimaraes.”
