Joao Moutinho has ended speculation over his future by committing to a new one-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Moutinho will take his Wolves career into a fifth year and is due to report back for pre-season training on Wednesday. Contract negotiations between Moutinho and the club have been lengthy, but an agreement was reached over the weekend.

The news comes as a significant boost to head coach Bruno Lage, who had been pushing for Moutinho to stay on at Molineux. Moutinho featured 35 times in the Premier League last season, with Lage often pairing him in midfield with compatriot Ruben Neves.

Moutinho, who turns 36 in September, initially wanted a two-year contract, but a compromise has been reached for him to stay put. The former Sporting, Porto and Monaco man has played 176 games for Wolves since joining the club for £5million in 2018.

Long-term Wolverhampton Wanderers target Joao Palhinha has completed a transfer to the Premier League.

Palhinha, 26, has joined newly-promoted Fulham from Primeira Liga side Sporting in a deal worth around £18million. Fulham have confirmed Palhinha has signed a five-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months.

“I’m very glad to be here,” said Palhinha. “It’s a big opportunity for me, for my career, to play in what is – in my opinion – the best league in the world.

“I’ve signed with a great club. The club wanted me, and I chose the club, so I promise the fans that I will do my best, and I hope we can win so many things in this season.”
