Wolves: Lage exit ‘will have implications’ on potential signing at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the hunt for a new manager at Molineux and it could well affect whether or not they move for West Ham United centre-back Craig Dawson again, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Despite handing Bruno Lage more than £120 million to strengthen his squad during the summer transfer window, owners Fosun International and chairman Jeff Shi chose to part ways with the Portuguese.

Lage was dismissed from his role less than 24 hours after his side were beaten 2-0 by West Ham in east London.

The hunt is now on for his replacement, with former Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui their top choice, according to The Telegraph, while Mainz manager Bo Svensson is also an option.

It is understood that, after Lopetegui was sacked from his role with the La Liga side this week, Wolves are set to step up their pursuit of the 56-year-old.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has previously told GiveMeSport that the West Midlands outfit would pull off a ‘huge coup’ if they were able to bring in the former Europa League winner.

Following the news of Lage’s sacking, it was reported that Wolves had been snubbed in their attempts to tempt Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim to the club, with the 37-year-old unwilling to walk away from their current Champions League exploits.

Jones says that the decision to replace Lage as manager could ‘have implications’ on their future transfer plans, including with regards to Dawson.

But the journalist adds that there will be no shortage of suitors for the 32-year-old if Wolves do change their plans.
