Wolves considering 'special' manager who's 'similar to Mourinho' at Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering appointing Ruben Amorim as Bruno Lage’s successor at Molineux, with the Sporting Lisbon boss being touted as ‘the next Jose Mourinho’, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Lage was handed more than £120 million to splash on new players in the West Midlands but, after a slow start to the season, he has been relieved of his duties.

The 37-year-old Sporting Lisbon chief is understood to be the number one choice to replace Lage in the Wolves dugout, although he comes with a £20 million buyout clause.

However, it has also been reported by The Sun that the club are in no rush to find a replacement, while Amorim remains unsure about departing the Portuguese giants.

Sporting continue to impress in the Champions League and currently lead Tottenham Hotspur, Eintracht Frankfurt and Marseille in Group D. The report adds that, as a result, Amorim is reluctant to leave.

It means that the club’s youth coaches, James Collins and Steve Davis, will likely step into the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

However, the Telegraph report that the club favour a move for either Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui or Mainz manager Bo Stevenson.

Sheth understands that Amorim is very highly rated in Portugal and has even drawn comparisons to Jose Mourinho.

The Sky Sports reporter adds that there is a lot of talk surrounding the possibility of Wolves making a move for him.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “With regard to who they will replace Lage with, there’s lots of talk about Ruben Amorim, the Sporting Lisbon manager. I’ve spoken to a couple of contacts in Portugal actually, who say this guy is very, very special. They’re talking about him in a similar way to Jose Mourinho.”
