Woking 2-1 Wrexham: Dragons miss chance to put pressure on Stockport as Cards triumph at Kingfield

Wrexham AFC missed a golden opportunity to close the gap on National League leaders Stockport County as they fell to defeat in front of the BT Sport cameras away at Woking. County had earlier lost 2-1 away at Yeovil Town but the Dragons failed to capitalise - also losing 2-1 despite taking the lead in the first half.

Stockport still retain their seven-point lead at the top of the National League standings and with only five matches remaining it now looks as though Wrexham's best chance of promotion this season is via the playoffs. Reds manager Phil Parkinson named the same starting XI for the eighth game running but his side would lose their impressive recent 15-match unbeaten run on a disappointing evening in Surrey.

The match started badly for the Dragons as in form full back Callum McFadzean limped off in the sixth minute to be replaced by Liam McAlinden. The home side then felt they should have been awarded a penalty as Tyreke Johnson broke into the box but Luke Young was adjudged to have won the ball.

David Longe-King then had a half-chance for Woking but he could only head wide of Christian Dibble's goal. The Dragons then started to grow into the game as Paul Mullin had a shot blocked before Luke Young struck just wide for the Reds.

Mullin then played a delightful ball into the path of Jordan Davies who unfortunately failed to get the ball under control and the chance went begging. James Jones then struck the woodwork as he did well to shift the ball onto his left foot before unleashing a powerful shot which bounced straight back off the crossbar.
