Wrexham fans banned from attending Stockport match

Wrexham AFC fans have been told by police that they will not be allowed to attend promotion rivals Stockport County's home game against Torquay United on Wednesday night. Some Dragons fans on social media had said they were planning to attend the game to support Torquay in what could be a vital game in the context of the title race.

Wrexham beat Stockport 3-0 on the weekend to ensure that the National League champions will be decided on the final day. The Dragons travel to Dagenham & Redbridge and County face Halifax Town at Edgeley Park this Sunday.

North Wales Police (NWP) have revealed that they are working in conjunction with their Greater Manchester counterparts to ensure that Dragons fans don't attend the County v Torquay match. Fans have been told they will be denied entry to Edgeley Park.

A statement on the NWP Wrexham Rural Facebook page revealed that Greater Manchester Police are aware of the situation and that any Dragons supporters at the game will be ejected. NWP also said that ticketing will be monitored.

The NWP statement said: "Wrexham fans planning to attend Stockport County’s next match will be denied entry to the ground. Recent posts on social media channels have encouraged Wrexham fans to buy away end tickets for Stockport’s home clash against Torquay United on Wednesday night (11 May)."

"Greater Manchester Police are aware of this situation and will continue to identify the Wrexham supporters involved. Numerous ticket purchases have already been cancelled in response to this issue.

"Ticket purchasing continues to be monitored. Any Wrexham fans attempting to enter Edgeley Park will be ejected from the stadium."
